Do you believe offering the elderly surgery for cancer may hasten their demise when they are already frail?

Dont start me off on this one!!. My grandmother was 94 & had bowel cancer, the surgeon decided to operate & after 8 hrs in theatre developed a blood clot & died within 2hours of recovery.What was the point of this, I was told once by an emminent surgeon its the quality of life & not the quantity,obviously didnt apply in this case did it. What a waste of resources.
