Can you get pregnant whilst having your period?

I've recently had unprotected with my ex-boyfriend and we happened to do it whilst i was midway through my period. I'm aware that when your pregnant you can't have your period so does this mean that there is no possibility of me getting pregnant, and if there is a possibility does this mean my period should just sudeently stop? please help.
